 Mick Classic Summary

At 3 days of riding, this tour is the standard for doing the entire trail in one outing. Although the camp sites are not perfectly spaced for similar mileage and climbing each day, we will provide shuttle service for the first and second day to specific locations to even out the distances and elevation gains to a reasonable level. We will also have a tour guide riding on the trail and a van at designated trailheads, so we can be flexible and make appropriate adjustments if necessary.

  • Friday Afternoon Arrival: You and your gear will be picked up by our van at 4:00 p.m. in Hill City on Friday and shuttled to Carsten's Cabins (approximately a 50 minute drive north) for dinner, tour orientation and camping. You will be joining two other groups at Carsten's Cabins who are doing different tour lengths of the Mickelson Trail during the same timeframe.

  • Saturday - 38 miles with 15 miles of uphill: After breakfast on Saturday, we will transport you and your tour guide 20 minutes in the van to the start of the trail in Deadwood for your first leg of 38 miles including 15 miles of uphill. After riding the first 17 miles, lunch will be served at Carsten's Cabins where you stayed Friday night. Nine miles of downhill after lunch is a must stop in Rochford at the Moonshine Gulch Saloon for a taste of history or beer, whatever you prefer. The remainder of the 12 mile leg will take you to the Mystic Trailhead and most of the way up a climb to a pick up location where our van will shuttle you to the Crooked Creek Campground just 3 miles south of Hill City for camping, hot showers, socializing and a catered dinner.

  • Biking with a great group.
  • Sunday - 44 miles with 11 miles of uphill: After breakfast on Sunday, we will return you to your ending place on Saturday where you will finish a climb (1 mile) and then descend 7 miles into Hill City. Another 3 miles returns you to the Crooked Creek Resort and then a 6 mile climb of 1-3% takes you to an incredible view of Crazy Horse Memorial. After topping out at the entrance to Crazy Horse, you will descend 6 miles of one of the prettiest sections of the trail to the Custer City Park for a picnic lunch. Following lunch, the trail transitions from granite outcroppings to more open meadows and vistas. In 18.5 miles with 3 miles of gentle climbing, we will get off the trail to be shuttled 2 miles to Charms Country Cabins 6 miles south of Pringle. This family operated campground does have a lot of country charmed with great facilities. A hearty dinner will be served by our caterer Sunday evening.

  • Monday- Homestretch of 26 miles downhill: After breakfast, we will return to the Mickelson Trail to complete our final and enjoyable leg to the city of Edgemont. We will continue the transition to the prairie's edge and will ride through spectacular canyons. We will aim to be in Edgemont by noon to beat the heat and in time for a picnic lunch before driving to Hill City where cars have been parked during the tour. We estimate arrival in Hill City by 3:00 p.m.

  • NOTE: The Basic Fee includes shuttle to and from Hill City, luggage & bike transfer; trail pass; 3 dinners, 3 lunches, 3 breakfasts; camping, hot showers; on trail tour guide support; and sag support at designated trail heads.
