Our 2008 Tours feature some of the Best South Dakota offers including the Prairie Hills & Lakes Region of Northeast South Dakota, the Badlands National Park, Devils Tower National Monument, and Five Classic Highlights of the Black Hills of South Dakota including Mt. This tour design is magic. Each day features one of five classic gems in the Black Hills from North to South; Spearfish Canyon, Mickleson Trail, Mt. Rushmore, Needles Highway and Crazy Horse Memorial. Our first two nights sets the tone at the Black Hills Hideaway Bed and Breakfast totally surrounded by pine forest. The second two nights are at the Grand and Executive Lodges of Palmer Gulch Resort, and the last night is at Sylvan Lake Lodge.

Challenging, because of longer distances

This tour nearly doubles the daily standard of 30 miles a day for our other tours and caps the number of guest to 10.  It combines two unqiue geographical wonders of the world with the inspiring beauty of the Badlands National Park and the majestic awe of Devils Tower National Monument, not to mention a tour down Spearfish Canyon, a national scenic biway with towering walls and a world class trout stream.  We first stay 2 nights at the Circle View Guest Ranch B&B perched on a hign vista in the Badlands.  After 2 days of riding in the Badlands, we "leapfrog" in the support van aproximately 65 miles to the northern Black Hills and stay 1 night at the Spearfish Canyon Lodge or at the Garden Secret B&B in Spearfish.  Our last 2 nights or at the Devils Tower B&B which is nestled near the base of Devils Tower with inexplicable views of the tower itself.

The Black Hills Monument Tour

This tour explores the heart of the South Dakota Black Hills featuring Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, Needles Highway and Custer State Park as well as the grandeur of the Black Hills themselves. We even get a good taste of the central section of the Mickelson Trail, a world class Rails to Trails path going north and south through the Black Hills. This tour's accommodations or also splendid with two nights at Palmer Gulch Resort's Executive Lodges (6 miles from Mt. Rushmore), and one night at Sylvan Lake Lodge in Custer State Park.




Northern Hills Fall Foliage Tour

This tour explores the best of the Northern Black Hills in South Dakota during the peak of the falls colors.  It is a true trip of contrast and variety. We will stay at the Black Hills Hideaway Bed and Breakfast (7 miles south of the historic town of Deadwood) nestled on 67 wooded acres of peace and solitude surrounded by Black Hills National Forest. The tour will include going "down" Spearfish Canyon, being shuttled to Deadwood, having dinner at Jakes, an elegant restaurant in Kevin Costner's Midnight Star Casino, and riding one of the most popular sections of the Mickelson Trail, a world class Rails to Trails path going north and south through the Black Hills.

This tour is design for family and friends and explores the secret beauty of the state's northeast prairie hills and lakes region. Called the Coteau des Prairies which sits on a 200 mile plateau, numerous attractions are offered including mysterious Sica Hollow State Park, inspiring Nicollet Tower and historic Fort Sisseton.  Our route includes miles of rolling scenic roadway of lakes, prairies and wooded ravines and valleys.  We will stay at the peaceful Prairie Sky Guest and Game Ranch which sits on 2000 acres on the northern edge of the Coteau with a view of two states that gives a feeling of being able to touch the stars.  The intimate 2 bedroom cabins with sleeping loft are ideal for family and friends and why parties of 4-6 are perfect.  Our host, Bruce and Corrine Prins will provide us with ranch style hospitality and family style meals.  If you desire, other amenities like horseback riding and fishing are available for an additional charge.

The Badlands National Park Tour

This tour explores one of the most unique geological wonders in the US. The scenery is amazing with high vistas, deep ravines, towering walls and awesome prairie. We will stay at the Circle View Guest Ranch 4 miles west of Interior near the park headquarters. This B&B was built in 2000 on a plateau over looking the White River Valley and is operated by a 3rd generation rancher and his wife. The tour will include the Badlands Loop road through the heart of the Badlands, short “geological” hikes, and options for bike riding and hiking in remote parts of the Park including Sheep Mountain Table.


  Tours Levels


Graded tour levels ensure we have an experience for people of all ages, abilities, backgrounds and interest. Most of our tours have the flexibility to be at two levels depending on the rider's choice.

Easy - specifically designed for entry level and very relaxed riding to allow you to gain experience and confidence for on-road touring.  Requires a minimum baseline of fitness, exercising once a week prior to the tour with preferably one 20 mile trip under the belt.

Moderate - expectation that of prior touring experience in moderately hilly terrain of gradual inclines of less than 5%. Avoidance of long steep inclines are easily done by riding in the van. Requires an average level of fitness, exercising two-three times a week prior to the tour and several 25-35 mile rides under the belt. .

Challenging -designed for the more experienced rider who wishes a good workout including sustained inclines of over 5% grade.  Requires a good level of fitness exercising three-four times per week prior to the tour and comfortable with 40 - 60 mile days.

Extreme - For those who like steep terrain and long distances over 60 miles a day. Requires a very high level of fitness.  Dakota Bike Tours does not offer this level at this time.
