Dakota Bike Tour Details Tour Schedule and Prices
Graded tour levels ensure we have an experience for people of all ages, abilities, backgrounds and interest. Most of our tours have the flexibility to be at two levels depending on the rider's choice. Easy - specifically designed for entry level and very relaxed riding to allow you to gain experience and confidence for on-road touring. Requires a minimum baseline of fitness, exercising once a week prior to the tour with preferably one 20 mile trip under the belt. Moderate - expectation that of prior touring experience in moderately hilly terrain of gradual inclines of less than 5%. Avoidance of long steep inclines are easily done by riding in the van. Requires an average level of fitness, exercising two-three times a week prior to the tour and several 25-35 mile rides under the belt. . Challenging -designed for the more experienced rider who wishes a good workout including sustained inclines of over 5% grade. Requires a good level of fitness exercising three-four times per week prior to the tour and comfortable with 40 - 60 mile days. Extreme - For those who like steep terrain and long distances over 60 miles a day. Requires a very high level of fitness. Dakota Bike Tours does not offer this level at this time.
What Is Not Covered
ReservationsTo reserve a place on your Dakota Bike tour, you can call 605-359-5672, click the “Register For Tour” link on each tour page or go to Tour Registration to set up your tour. Your reservation will be confirmed with your deposit. DepositsFinal Payment due 60 days prior to start of tour. Tour deposits (per person) are as follows:

Final Payments, Cancellation & Refund PoliciesFinal payment is due 60 days prior to the starting day of your tour. If your final payment is not received at that time, your reservation will be cancelled and your deposit will not be refunded. If you must cancel your reservation, your cancellation fee will be according to the following:
Travel InsurancePlease purchase Trip Cancellation Insurance since we are unable to make any exceptions to our cancellation policy even for personal emergencies. We will provide trip cancellation insurance information in your confirmation packet. Arrival, Parking, Final DayOur Lodges and B&B’s have ample parking for your car and you are welcome to drive your vehicle to our first night’s accommodation for our weekend tours. Our mid week tours have a designated meeting place where cars are left for the entire tour. (We will return you to your vehicle on the final tour day for those tours that do not end where your car is parked.) We will also provide a shuttle service at approximately 2:00 p.m. on your arrival day from the Rapid City Airport to the start of our tours and will return you to the Airport or a Rapid City Motel between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. on our final tour day. Anyone needing to fly out on the final tour day before 6:00 p.m. should check with us prior to booking your flight. PetsSome of our B&B’s have family pets. Let us know if you have any relevant allergies. ChildrenChildren 10 years old or older, who are experienced cyclists and who use a 21 gear bike, are very welcome on our tours if accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Our smallest rental bike will fit a small person 4 feet 8 inches and taller, so if your child is shorter, you must provide your own bike. Renting a Bike from Dakota Bike ToursYou can rent an excellent 24 gear Specialized cross bike with straight handle bars from us. Expertly maintained, they come equipped with a front handlebar bag, rear seat bag, water bottle, mirror, and toe straps. We will put on your pedals and seat on our bike if you bring them with you. Bike rental prices are: Bringing Your Own BikeHybrid or Cross Bikes with 35c tires or larger are recommended on our Black Hills tours (Northern Hills, Classic and Monument) because we utilize the Mickelson Trail on part of each tour which has a hard limestone crush rock for its surface. Our 35c tire size works very well on both the Mickelson Trail and on paved surfaces. You are welcome to bring your own bike if it has 21 gears or higher and has recently been tuned up. If your tire size is smaller than 35c, you may wish to use one of our bikes on those days we use the Mickelson Trail at half the regular charge. However, you will need to make arrangements prior to the start of the trip. HelmetsQuality helmets are made available to you at no charge. The use of helmets while riding is required on our tours. ReferralsWe would be pleased to provide you with names of people who have been on one of our tours. Confirmation PacketWe will send you a Confirmation Packet with information about your trip as soon as we receive your deposit. Included in the packet are:
Tour Cancellations by Dakota Bike ToursShould we have to cancel a tour, we will refund 100% of your tour payments or you may take a different tour with us. |
