BADLANDS NATIONAL PARK TO WOUNDED KNEE TOUR SUMMARY

This bicycle tour is a geological, cultural and historic ride via sections of the historic Bigfoot Trail to Wounded Knee through the Badlands National Park and the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. The scenery is amazing with high vistas, deep ravines, towering walls and awesome prairie. We will stay the first two nights at the Circle View Guest Ranch just south of the Badlands and north of the reservation. After dinner on Sunday, we will hear stories from our Native American guides and our hosts, Philip and Amy Kruse. Their ranch is crossed every year on Christmas Day during the Big Foot Memorial Riders' annual ride from the Cheyenne Indian Reservation to Wounded Knee. The stories we will hear will put our bicycle riding in context that will be special and unique. After riding the Badlands Scenic Loop Road on Monday, we will return to the ranch for another great meal prepared by Amy. On Tuesday we will ride our bikes just west of Kyle where we will stay at the Lakota Prairie Ranch Resort. On Wednesday, we will depart on bicycles to Wounded Knee and tour the cemetery where we will hear the story of the Wounded Knee Massacre of 1890. Following lunch and the presentation at Wounded Knee, we will head back to Rapid City in our van where cars have been parked for the tour.

Sunday Arrival - Our parking place is at the Dakota Bike Tours' International Headquarters in Rapid City (see enclosed map) where we will meet by 12:00 p.m. and get ready to ride. We will load up and meet those guests who fly into the Rapid City Airport by 1:30 p.m. We will then drive to Scenic and unload our bikes for a 28 mile ride east to the Circle View Guest Ranch. Following the ride our host will treat us to hors d'oeuvres and a dinner that will match the incredible scenery we will experience from their deck overlooking the White River Valley.
