This tour explores one of the seven wonders of the United States according to the National Geographic in 2008. The scenery is amazing with high vistas, deep ravines, towering walls and awesome prairie. We will stay at the Circle View Guest Ranch 4 miles west of Interior next to the park headquarters. This B&B was built in 2000 on a plateau overlooking the White River Valley and is operated by a 3rd generation rancher and his wife. The riding of this tour is planned to accommodate all levels of bicycle riders, so no one has to do more than they wish, or if the energetic riders desire, they will have ample opportunities to explore additional loops in addition to climbing all the hilly stretches.
Day 1 , Arrival - We will pick people up at the Rapid City Airport at 1:00 p.m. or meet them at the ranch by 2:30 p.m. We will fit guests with their bikes and take an 18 mile ride mostly downhill just south of the Badlands. Following the ride, Amy and Phillip, our host, will treat us to fantastic hors d'oeuvres and a dinner that will match incredible scenery and sunset we will experience from their deck overlooking the White River Valley.
Day 2, Badlands Tour Begins - Following Breakfast , we will take the van to famous Wall Drug, where some may wish to add 8 miles to their ride by riding into the park from Wall. Others will start their ride at the Pinnacles Overlook. All riders will ride on the Badlands Loop Road and stop often and do some very interesting short hikes to learn about the geology of the Badlands. Our bike route will range from 22 to 44 miles or more, depending on how energetic our riders are.
Day 3, Tour Sheep Mountain - We will depart from the Circle View Guest Ranch and ride our bike 28 miles to Scenic. Some will continue riding 4-9 additional miles to Sheep Mountain Table to have a picnic lunch in one of the most remote parts of the park. Others will wish to ride in the van from Scenic or even earlier to gain excess to this unique part of the Badlands. Following our picnic lunch on top of Sheep Mountain Table , we will return in the van to Circle View Guest Ranch where the cars are parked. Transportation to the RC Airport will arrive in time for a 5:00 p.m. departure or later.
